30 Oct 11   Update It's official the track has been paved and looks great! 2012 will be the 20th year to have Shadybowl as our home track. We will racing every other weekend in 2012 but we need at least 8 cars each week to race. American Racing tires will be our tires of choice and will have more information on where and when to buy tires later. We would like some input from you all on if we would like to have our own banquet this year or would just like to just participate in Shadybowl's banquet. If there is anyone interested in buying cars there are several cars for sale please contact Gary Smith, Paul Hazlett or Rob Dutra for information. We will post any information as it becomes available.

29 Aug 11  We've just received word that Max Evans passed away Monday morning. For those that didn't know Max, you really missed out. Max was one of the pioneers of Dwarf Car racing in Ohio and a fixture at Shady Bowl for the last decade plus. But more than that, Max was one of the good guys of racing. Anytime any racer needed a hand, Max was there to help in any way he could. He did so much for so many, much of which most didn't know about. Of course, Max was also "the man" when it came to Ohio Caverns and his kindness showed there as well. Truly, a sad day. RIP my friend.

A great individual, mentor, confidant and someone I was proud to call friend. Max has made his final pit stop. This racer has left a legacy that will not be forgotten by all that knew him. He helped more people then we will know and others that will never know what he had done for them. Max was one of those people that would do whatever he could to help someone in need. When I got hurt in a racing accident he was one of the people that stepped up to ensure my family had everything they needed while I was recovering without being asked, this is just who Max was.

31 Jul 11  OVDCA returned to ShadyBowl for the second race of the year and the outside temperature was not the only hot topic of the day. Cassie Pohl experienced a driveshaft failure while heading out to qualify for the evening and she was not able to continue.  KD Knoedler also had a little bad luck when two bolts broke in his front end causing his right front tire to part ways with his lower control arm. The damage was not to severe as he was able to return for the main event.

The main started with Connie Smith and Paul Hazlett leading the field to the green. Brandon Basye returned this week and picked up where he left off last year quickly finding his way to the front with Jesse Glade and KD following close behind.  With Brandon stretching his lead a little every lap he won the main with a half lap lead over KD.

Finishing order:
Brandon Basye
KD Knodler
Jesse Glade
Paul Hazlett
Connie Smith

13 Jul 11  The American Racer tire that MCR is running this year is legal for OVDCA competition and will be our tire starting next year.  If teams are needing tires please let me know so we can get the local distributor to order some for us

10 Jul 11  After a lot of work by the new owners of ShadyBowl Speedway, OVDCA was able to race at our home track this past weekend. The night started off with a quick drivers meeting where we discussed a new format change.  With the help of ShadyBowl the OVDCA as started qualifying for starting positions instead of using the traditional pill draw.  We feel this will be better for all parties involved and aligns us with the tracks current program.

              Qualifying times
                            Car#      Time     Driver
                                7         14.39    KD Knoedler
                               44        16.38    Jesse Gade
                               33        16.83    Paul Hazlett
                               54        19.30    Cassie Pohl

KD ruled the night winning both the heat and main races, both ran without incident for a exciding evening of racing. With the Evans-Hostetler classic right around the corner we are sure more teams will be out getting ready for the seasons premier event.

4 Jul 11   I regret that because of personal & health issues, I will no longer be able to continue my position as Race Director of the OVDCA.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with the best group of people I've ever met. But at this time I must step aside & direct full time & efforts to issues of health. I will miss each & everyone involved with Dwarf Car Racing & Shady Bowl in general. I have made so many friends that I will remember for ever & hope to see all again in the future!
I wish you all the best & hope you continue to enjoy the sport & the competition it brings.
I will be more than happy to offer advise & assist the officers, members of the club & racers in general in any way I can in the future.
I hope & pray for a safe successfull season for all.

Please direct your questions re: operations of the OVDCA to Max Evans, Bill Hoststler or Rob Dutra.

28 Jun 11  Hello MCR Members & Friends,

There has been a scheduling error, the date on our schedule was wrong, we are not racing this Friday at M-40. Our next schedule race is at M-40 Saturday July 9th.
So enjoy the holiday weekend with your family and friends and we will see you on July 9th Saturday at M-40 Speedway.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY EVERYONE!
Steve Martin

25 Jun 11  We have updated the Schedule and are still working on additional dates.  Please check back often as we will post more dates once we have them confirmed

10 Jun 11  We finally have some positive news to offer for a change.  I've been contacted by Don Mahaffey re: one of the new partners at Shady Bowl. They closed the deal on the purchase of the track last Fri. & have been working very hard to ready the facilities for opening day. I do not know the exact date at this time but hopefully it will be in the next few weeks. They are working on the grounds, Restrooms, concession stands, permits and more. The plans were to do some repair on the walls & re-pave the corners prior to opening, with plans to completely re-pave the track in the fall after the race season.
As soon as I know something firm I'll pass the info along to all of you. I hope Max & I will be able to meet with Don next week & should have a better update at that time!

Is your car ready? Don't wait till July & tell me you will be there in the next couple of weeks. We must have all members ready & make as good of an impression as possible if we want to remain on the race schedule at Shady Bowl & every car is important!!!!!!!!!!!!!

26 Apr 11  As of this date there is no announced starting date for Shady Bowl Speedway to open its 2011 Race season.

The weather throughout April was cold & wet so no racing was able to be done anyway. With May closing in fast we still have no idea when it will open.

I want to remain confident that there will be racing at the Bowl this season but just when it will happen is as much a mystery to me as to it is to you. With that said, I assume that all OVDCA racers will have their cars ready to go when it happens. It is a must, that when the track opens, that we are there with all the cars we can muster to show the track promoters that we are a group worth keeping on the schedule. We need everybody to complete the little details that have kept several off the track the past few years to get with the program and have cars ready to race and at the track from the very first race date.

Hopefully we will hear something by the end of the week & I will pass along any information as soon as it becomes available. In the mean time for those who may be ready & willing to travel a bit, MCR is ready to get their 2011 schedule underway & I'm sure that Steve will welcome you as guest for a race or two. You can contact Steve Martin at stevemcr6@comcast.net or visit their website.

Let's be positive about Shadybowl & make sure we're ready when opening day arrives.

4 Apr 11   Just received this update from ShadyBowl Speedway

SEASON UPDATE
DeGraff OH: (4/4/11) - We are racing this season.  We are currently in the process of transitioning to new management.  Current plans should have track preparations and racing ready to go by the end of April, subject to weather conditions.

Please stay tuned in for the latest official updates from ShadyBowl

30 Mar 11   ShadyBowl Speedway Test & tune for Wednesday, March 30, has been canceled due to weather. All racing action for this weekend has also been canceled due to weather and the impact of weather on track preparations. Season opener will now take place on Saturday, April 9.

28 Mar 11   The 2011 season is scheduled to start this Saturday at Shadybowl Speedway. It has been a long winter and we hope to see everyone there, tuned up and ready to race.

28 Mar 11   As most of you know , at this time there are no Goodyear Dwarf car tires available through our normal supplier (Shadybowl Speedway) I have made contact w/ a Shadybowl represenitive this AM and was assured I would be getting some information in the next several days re: the tires situation.

With opening day scheduled for this next weekend it doesn't leave many solutions available for us. Most racers have tires to start the season so no big problem. We are working to resolve the situation & I will advise as soon as I know something.

One possable solution will be to allow another brand of tire to be used to replace the std. Goodyear. This is only an option being discussed at this time, and you will be advised at a later date if this is to be the way we go. "DO NOT BUY ANY OTHER BRAND TIRE AT THIS TIME"

You may call if you need further info or have any questions.
The long range weather does not look very good for opening day & we probably will not start this week anyway w/ temps to be in the 40's. If this is the case it will give us an extra week ti resolve the situation.
