Bob Bayse wins the final event of the year-
Hostetler clinches the title!
The OVDCA completed their 2008 season Sat. Sept 20th. with a great show at
the Bowl, with 16 cars making the show and absolutely perfect weather. The night was off to a great start for in heat #1 when Urbana's Jerry Damewood worked his way from his 6th place starting position to the front and won going away, the action was tighter behind him as Donnie Eaton managed to edge out Max Evans for second.
Heat #2 was a tough fight from start to finish with very close and blazing fast action from the start, but when the dust settled it was Dublin Ohio’s Brad Damewood taking the checkers, to make it a clean sweep of the heats for the father son Damewood duo.
The 20 lap feature was the show of the night with Bradford Ohio speedster, "Bob Bayse" taking charge from the start and pressed side by side by West liberty's Bill Hostetler. With lap times in the 13's the leaders worked their way around the track, working the traffic inside then outside with two and three wide action all over the track. A single caution on lap 17, when Indiana driver Josh Luper and Springfield's Donnie Eaton made contact and bunched the field allowing a last charge by Hostetler, but Bayse would not be denied as he held on to win his first of the year.
With his effort for the night Bill Hostetler clinched his fifth OVDCA points championship! Winning five club championships is not an easy feat any where at any time, but for a 75 year old driver it's extraordinary. Bill also competed and captured one of two GLAS events in Plymouth Indiana this season. Good job to all who competed in this the final race of "08"

Curtis Takes Second Evans-Hostetler Classic Crown
Saturday, August 2, 2008
Shady Bowl Speedway
By Shawn Sell
The second annual Evans-Hostetler Classic, honoring two of Ohio’s top asphalt dwarf car drivers, once again lived up to its billing as 25 of the scaled down racers packed the Shady Bowl pits on Saturday, August 2. When the dust had settled, it was Michigan hotshoe Craig Curtis snaring his first career Shady Bowl win and the $450 top prize.
The event had the sizable Shady Bowl crowd on its feet as the 20-lap speedfest ripped off without a caution. Curtis charged into the lead from the pole and led flag-to-flag, holding off the challenges of Bill Hostetler, over 50 years his senior, to take the win. The main event was co-sponsored by Ohio Caverns of West Liberty and Piqua Transfer.
The evening’s festivities kicked off with a pair of practice sessions, setting the stage for three qualifying heat races and a last chance race. Round one of practice saw 24 cars take laps and just a couple of minor spins. The fireworks started in the final tune-up session just moments before the start of racing. Heading into turn four, Bronson Monst spun in front of the pair of Jon Wylie and Todd Hare. The latter proceeded to run over a rear tire of Monst’s ride, launching him airborne. From there, Hare’s car climbed the rear of Wylie’s mount, before coming to rest on its roof near the wall. While Hare emerged unscathed, his ride was subsequently retired for the evening. Just moments later, Mike Arnott sustained front end damage following a scrape with the wall.
A series of three heat races were the first order of business and seven cars lined up for the first qualifier, sponsored by the Urbana branch of Fifth Third Bank. The event belonged to Michigan’s Tom Hernly, Jr. who raced to the lead from the outside pole, leading all eight laps to earn a trophy courtesy of Joe’s Can Do Auto Repair of London. Hernly’s teammate Curtis took second ahead of K.D. Knoedler and Jon Wylie. The fifth and final transfer spot went to pole sitter Jim Monst.
Heat race number two, sponsored by People’s Savings and Loan of West Liberty was marred by four caution flags. Two yellows flew before a lap could be completed, with two spins by Brian Insley resulting in the other two stoppages. Under green, Brandon Basye was a man on the move as he overcame a seventh starting position to roar past polesitter Mike McManman, Sr. for the win. McManman held on for second with the balance of the transfer slots going to Bob Basye, Corey Barcus and Brad Damewood.
The Dingeldine Trucking sponsored third event was next and wasn’t decided until the final corner of lap eight. It was Hostetler taking the early lead with pressure from grandson Daniel Wirick. Hostetler would ultimately lead for 7 ¾ laps, but a bad choice of lane in lapped traffic allowed Wirick to slip by for the win. Eric Hoffman, Chris Woodward and Bronson Monst also advanced.
Seven cars were on the grid for the Damewood Enterprises B-Main and it was Jerry Damewood taking early control. An early spin by Charlie Luper allowed Max Evans to close the gap on Damewood and he later roared past to take the win in the 12-lap event. A flat tire cost Insley a spot in the feature with the remaining transfer positions falling to Damewood, Donnie Eaton, Arnott and Luper.
In what turned out to be arguably the best event of the evening at the Bowl, 20 of the fastest and finest dwarfs took the track for the 20-lap main event. Curtis, at age 23 and Hostetler at the tender age of 75, brought the field to the green with Curtis grabbing the lead. The high-speed event had action all over the track and concluded with no sign of a yellow flag. Curtis broke out to a sizable lead to start, but Hostetler narrowed the gap throughout. Further back, Basye was again the man on the move, ultimately earning the Slayton Family Motorsports Hard Charger Award for advancing six spots to a third place finishing position. Wylie ended up in the fourth spot with Wirick taking fifth. The balance of the top 10 featured McManman, defending event champion Hoffman, Knoedler, Bob Basye and Barcus.
The OVDCA would like to thank all of its event sponsors as well as Joe’s Can Do Auto Repair for its donation of the trophies. Thank you also to Midwest Classic Racers’ president Steve Martin and his contingent of racers for their support of the event.

OVDCA wins one over Mother Nature!
June 28th was a good day for race fans as Mother Nature took a small break from the continuous deluge of thunder storms that have kept racers at home and off the track the past month. Although earlier storms had passed through and the threat of additional storms were present and kept some racers from making the tow to the track, we were able to sneak one in at the Bowl.
Top honors and a big pat on the back goes to Kelby (KD) Knoedler, the Knoxville Flash, for winning his first ever Main event, under a lot of pressure from the thundering heard of regular OVDCA Hot Dogs. Kd was able to stay calm and drove a flawless and fast twenty laps, while the others swapped positions and made several charges in attempts to take over the top spot.
Also a big smile and a well done goes to Brad Damewood for a stellar win in the fast heat, finishing ahead of a very fast group of cars.
Main:
KD Knoedler--Knoxville TN
Bob Bayse--Bradford OH
Bill Hostetler--West Liberty--OH
Brandon Bayse--Covington OH
Daniel Wirick-- West Liberty OH
Jerry Damewood--Urbana OH
Brad Damewood--Dublin OH
Chris Woodward-- Piqua OH
Donnie Eaton--Urbana OH
Max Evans--East Liberty OH
Heat wins to: KD Knoedler---Brad Damewood
We will be returning to Shadybow Saturday July 12th for a regular scheduled event.
Please don't forget that Saturday Aug 2nd we will be hosting the Evans- Hostetler classic event with Cars from Michigan and Illinois making the drive down for our biggest event of the season.

Great Lakes Asphalt Series 2008 Results
"Hostetler shows the way"
Michigan’s Midwest Classic Racer’s Association (MCR) hosted the first of two Great Lake Asphalt Series (GLAS) events this past Saturday at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth IN. The GLAS events are contested by the 3 mid-west based Dwarf Clubs including MCR based in MI, Ohio Valley Dwarf Club (OVDCA) based in OH and the UMARA based in IL/IN.
A full field of asphalt racers from across the Midwest was on hand to compete in the 2008 version of what has become a great annual event for Pavement Dwarf Cars in this part of the country.
OVDCA senior member and four-time OVDCA Champion "Bill Hostetler" showed the younger drivers that he still has what it takes along with the desire to do it, by winning the feature event with a lot of fast cars and drivers giving chase.
These groups will meet again August 2nd when the OVDCA will host its annual "Evans Hostetler Classic" at their home track, the tricky oval of Shadybowl Speedway, DeGraff, OH. “Hot Shoe” Eric Hoffman of the MCR is returning
champion of this event which will be contested by a full field of blazing fast "Classic" Dwarf Cars. We expect a great show for the Shadybowl fans.
A few weeks later on August 23rd the second leg of the G.L.A.S. series will be run at Plymouth Speedway
.
A special thanks to Steve Martin and MCR for their stellar effort in planning another great event. For future information on the upcoming races, please check www.ovdca.com, www.midwestclassicracers.com, www.bidca-racing.com, www.shadybowl.com and www.plymouthspeedway.net.

June 13, 2008: Severe weather forecast have forced Shadybowl and USAC officials to call of tonight's planned races. Possible re-scheduling of the USAC event will be announced at a later date. The GLAS Race at Plymouth In is still scheduled for tomorrow Sat the 14th of June and the weather forecast is good, with a high of 82 and partly cloudy with only a 20% chance of a passing shower. A number of OVDCA drivers have pledged to make the trip and we want to wish them luck and a good time. The OVDCA will return to Shadybowl Saturday June 28th for a regular scheduled event, see you then.
Jack Van Dyke

The OVDCA has scheduled a pre-season safety tech inspection for Saturday, March 22 in Urbana Ohio. It will be conducted (thanks to Brad and Jerry Damewood) at Digledine Trucking 1000 Phoenix Dr. from 10 AM till Noon. Google Directions. All cars must go through an inspection prior to racing so this is a good chance to do it before the first race and will save a great deal of time at the track.
Also a reminder that driver radios are required for the 2008 season all divisions must comply, Brad Damewood has done some research and has found two options in the central Ohio area to choose from. Coyer Enterprises in Bellfontaine, Oh 937-593-1599, they have a complete package for $95. Hall Electronics, Columbus, Oh 614-402-6227 offers a package for $160. The OVDCA is not suggesting that either of these dealers or their equipment is preferred or better than the other, we are just offering the info for your convenience.
The 2008 schedule is complete and offers a full summer of fun at the track while still having several open weekends that allow us to do things, such as vacationing with our family's, weekend getaways, family picnics and much more, I urge you to take advantage of these off weeks to schedule your other activities so we can maintain steady car counts through the summer as best we can.
Jack Van Dyke
ATTENTION ALL DRIVERS!!!
All Shadbowl races will require the use of a RACEceiver radio system!!!
Hall Electronics is one possible source. Check their web-site for prices www.hallelectronics.com
